DARK CITY a gripping detective mystery eBook CHRISTOPHER M COLAVITO

I almost stopped reading after the first chapter because this author gets carried away with elaborate descriptions. (Think "Call of the Wild" by Jack London ) . However when the dialog between characters began it pulled me into the story. This turned out to be a classic detective novel that was quite good. I enjoyed the banter between the seasoned detective and the young upstart he is paired with. If you can get past the first couple chapters you will enjoy this book.

DARK CITY a gripping detective mystery eBook CHRISTOPHER M COLAVITO Reviews

I found the writing style fascinating...so many interesting metaphors and psychological observations. But it is so linear We don't get to know anything about any of the characters or "the city" other than observations by the morbidly cynical detective. The plot was creative (even though a similar one was on a episode of "Vera") but devolved into silliness. This writer has a lot of potential (the book was engaging enough for me to finish), but he needs to find a new publisher with a good editor who will not provide sockpuppet reviews.
I could not finish this book after the first two chapters. The author has a unique storytelling ability, very vivid using almost poetic language to weave the tale. That's good. However, it took too long to grab my attention, and shortly afterwards I was speed reading through to get to the point. I'm not criticizing the work - I can't imagine how difficult it must be to construct a novel. And this writer has a talent. Perhaps just not this genre? I don't know, but I was not engaged.
I thought the dark mood of Dylan was overdone. The plot could have been a little more developed. I had an idea of whodunit but there wasn't really any way of telling why this character would commit murder.
Good book.
Enjoyed the plot and characters. Also appreciated the detailed thought process of the detective.
Bit of suggestion at the end really did nothing to add to the plot.
WHAT A GREAT READ!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope to read more of this author's work. I found the writing to be poetic - which totally appealed to me. The story was less important to me than the poetic writing and deep philosophical pondering. And I totally enjoyed the character development of the two detectives. Again, a great read!!!!!!!!!
Plot was interesting but the only character well developed (maybe too well developed) was the miserable, insufferable Knox. I found the excessive use of elaborate metaphors interrupted th flow of the story and at times painted a misleading mental picture. Overall found the book rather depressing.
